4 Practical Tips: Printing

By Larry Crosier

Printing can get really expensive, really quickly. You started out with a simple inkjet printer; the machine itself was relatively affordable, and the accessories were inexpensive. Then, when business started picking up, you realized that you needed something sleeker and faster to churn out thousands of prints a day. So you indulged yourself and bought a laser printer, and the two of you couldn't be happier together. However, you have one small complaint: everyone in the office despises choosing a new toner cartridge. It is easy to get overwhelmed by all of the options, so more often than not your employees opt to buy the most expensive brand. But are they really getting the most for their money?

Before you buy the expensive cartridge manufactured by the maker of your printer, consider a few other options. Compatible toner cartridges are off-brand cartridges that are modeled after their more expensive counterparts. Many consumers are wary of off-brand products, and worry that they will somehow take away from the efficacy of the printer. You should buy with confidence knowing that compatible cartridge manufacturers hold their employees to standards that are equally as high as those in well-known factories.

Another viable option is to purchase a re-manufactured toner cartridge. The only difference between these cartridges and their competitors is that they were manufactured differently. Have you ever wondered where your empty toner cartridges go after you recycle them? They are scooped up by a re-manufacturer, fixed up, and filled with new toner. They are then put in boxes and sold to you at competitive prices at your local electronics store. Not only do you save money, but you do your part to save the environment, too!

If you are worried that you may encounter a scam or get a defective cartridge, consider purchasing a toner refill kit. These kits make it incredibly easy for you to refill your cartridges whenever necessary from the comfort of your own office. You will be provided with all the tools you need to drill a small hole in the cartridge and fill it with toner. A small rubber seal will keep the toner from leaking during the printing process. They make it so easy, you truly have no reason not to try it!

You spent the money on the printer; you deserve to have it work. Whether you decide to refill your cartridges at home, to buy a compatible cartridge, or purchase a re-manufactured one, you will still see the same beautiful, high quality images and documents coming out of your laser printer. As always, regardless of your choice, make sure to recycle your used toner cartridges by bringing the to a re-manufacturer, refilling them yourself, or dropping them off at a local electronics store.
