The Difference Between Wealth And Riches

By Gregory Williams

It is common to have the two words used interchangeably. However, they mean two different worlds that are subtly distinguished. Wealth and riches are differentiated by the state of being when one acquires one and also the process of acquisition. Possession is also a differentiating factor, but these assets differ in each of the two cases.

Wealthy persons are said to enjoy satisfaction in life. Whatever a wealthy man has as his assets, he is very contented and glad about life. He also does not lust or thirst for other possessions and is not in competition with anyone for them. In fact, bank balances and possessions do not count a great deal when the wealthy are being classified.

Wealthy people have greater good around their lives and operations. They have people within their support structures. Theirs is also a long term journey that cannot be equated to property. A wealthy person has relationships that are beneficial. He has a network of people who are reliable and will walk with him the journey of life in the long run. In fact, a wealthy person does not necessarily have to be the richest around. The weight or measure is not exclusive to possessions.

While many people opt for riches over wealth, the duration one maintains either of the status should be a wake-up call. Wealthy people maintain their status over a long time. In fact, the status is self sustaining because it is not based on material possessions. Their glue is knowledge and strong relationships that are dependable when the subject or those around are facing disaster or a catastrophe. Rich people have turned into paupers in a flash.

Richness is a basic measure of possession. A person is rich because of what he or she has acquired. While the wealthy are built over time, one can become rich in a day or a short time. Being rich is also subject to competition because the possessions are quantifiable. Considering that most of the possessions are physical, one can wake up a rich man and go to be a poor one.

Networks or relationships are not mandatory for rich people. This is why some rich people can be found in affluent neighborhoods with little or no impact on their neighbors. The fact that the lives of people around you have not been transformed by your possessions leads to loneliness and sometimes conflict with them. Being rich does not guarantee a feeling of contentment and inner peace.

It is impossible to argue against being rich. However, the question should remain how one transits from being rich into being wealthy. The basic requirement is having an impact on the lives of those in your neighborhood using your possessions. The network and relationships you create bring contentment and peace around. Even when you fall, you will have a support system around you.

Wealthy people are known to rely on relationships, networks and knowledge. These are advantages that enhance their survival even when turbulence strikes. The lives of the wealthy are characterized by peace and satisfaction. Quick treasures are not their pursuit since they seek to build lasting and life changing possessions.
