I read an article where a cell phone unlocking company - Cellfservices has said that they have unlocked the BlackBerry Bold 9700 from Rogers Wireless, T-mobile, Bell Mobility, Telus Mobility, AT&T and have made bold claims that they can unlock any BlackBerry Phone no matter which network. We wanted to see if this was true and just received a MEP unlock code for the BB 9700 in literally 3 minutes to our work e-mail address for our Bold 9700 locked to the AT&T Network. We followed Cellfservices instructions and video tutorial to unlock our phone and voila! We are now picking up the T-mobile network with our T-mobile SIM Card.
In the spirit of "sales", they set the BlackBerry 9700 MEP unlock codes on sale for as low as $16.99 and even the other ones only go up to $21.99. I expect you think this is a scam since it's SO cheap. I thought so too, but after doing a through review of Cellfservices, they only have positive feedback all over the internet.

The advantages to unlocking a BlackBerry seem complicated at first, but it's quite simple. I spoke with a customer service representative at the Cellfservices Call Center and he seemed so passionate about sharing about the benefits. After asking questions and him answering them all perfectly, I decided to go ahead and place my order. In a nut shell, by using an unlocked BlackBerry Bold, you are able to use your phone on any GSM network carrier. This means that if I have an AT&T BlackBerry, I can travel the world and use any prepaid wireless service. You get a local phone number. Now you guessed it! This means that you eliminate your roaming fees completely! This saves you a lot of money in the long run considering some network carriers charge up to $4/minute in roaming fees.
I used prepaid phones when I went traveling throughout the European continent. There were way too many horrible things about prepaid phones itself though. I was always stuck with a crappy mobile phone with none of my contacts, keys with 3-4 letters on each button and most importantly, no access to check my e-mails! If you're a BlackBerry user, I'm sure you can imagine what it's like when you get over 100 emails a day!
I'm going to be speaking at a conference in the UK in the next week or so. I know I'll be getting a ton of phone calls from colleagues as well as old friends who are working there. I'm glad I unlocked my Bold 9700 and I know that I'll be able to get the most out of my phone now. I'm sure that this article has given others a better picture how to save on roaming while traveling with your cell phone. Beyond that, you get to keep all of your contacts and features from your primary phone. Cheers!
