My Internet Marketing Debut

By Reed Slidell

Many articles around the web talk about how to do this and avoid that in Internet marketing. But here, I'll be talking about my own experiences. Why? To give you an idea on how to start your own business. It really doesn't take much. All you need is a passion, a dedication and hard work. You don't need to be a genius (which I am not) to be successful. And before anything else, make sure you have your own computer and Internet connection.

Having a computer is important. The way I mentioned it above may seem like a joke, but I am serious about it. I've known far too many people who tried their hand in Internet marketing despite not having their own computer and the results were disastrous. True, there are some that managed to survive, but they didn't last and success was never there. It just doesn't make sense to get into a business that requires the Internet yet you don't have a connection to it. Any business that isn't looked after properly will surely fail, everyone knows that.

When I started out, I was doing photography for a clients. I did weddings, pet portraits, fashion and commercial shoots and basically whatever the clients wants me to do. I never once marketed myself though so as you can figure, the projects were few and far between. As I learned about Internet marketing, I finally found a way to finally make my brand known. But first things first, I needed to focus on a single aspect of my work. So I sat down and though about it. Out of all the stuff that I do, which among them was I most passionate about? Where I can say I am most expert at? Turns out it was portraiture.

So weddings and portraiture became my key services. Now, before you yell foul, I chose weddings as well since it was a form of portraiture and it was also the most lucrative among the genres of photography. Though I focused mainly on portraiture. What I did next was set up a website and made sure enough content was in it to show the world what I can do. And after that, I went on and did some SEO, or search engine optimization, as well as social media marketing as well. And after a few weeks, the volume of traffic more than doubled.

So there you have it, My own personal experience in having an online business. Now, it is service based and I do go to the field, but the way I did was through the Internet. So if you think you have what it takes to earn your fortune in Internet marketing, I say go ahead. I am by no means a genius, but I do know what I know and I stuck to it with a passion. All you need is to find your passion, stick to it, follow the rules of Internet marketing and you will reap what you sow in due time.
