One way that viruses sneak into your computer is through your emails. These emails are also called spam emails. Not all spam emails are made with viruses attached but many are. You can never trust them.

As you're opening your emails be aware of whom it's from and what the subject line says. It should be fairly easy to tell if it's a fraud email. Some emails will come from an unrecognized email address while others will try and fake that they actually know you. Be smart about these emails and mark them as spam if you know they are.

Regular anti-viral scans don't really prevent viruses but they are the best way to stop them before they spread. Viruses are known to spread extremely quickly. They can even spread to different devices such as an external hard drive. Getting a virus on your external hard drive is especially bad if you have important files on it.

If you want to protect your external hard drive, make sure you perform an anti-viral scan before you plug the external hard drive in. This will ensure that it's connecting to a virus free computer. The last thing you want is to infect all your important documents on your external hard drive.

As you're browsing the Internet, be aware of what you are clicking on and opening. Many things require a download, which you should be very careful with. Only download files that are trusted. There are millions of scams out there that try and get you to install their virus to your computer.

Always use caution when you are opening emails and browsing the Internet. Anti-viral scans also provide a good service to detect any viruses. Viruses can cause a lot of havoc once they're in your computer system. It's important to always prepare your computer and other devices so they can be free of viruses.
